How to follow 5 fashion trends in 1 wearable outfit (Fall edition)
Updated: Oct 22, 2021
Wearing an outfit that follows several fashion trends may sound intimidating, especially when we see so many bold and non-wearable tendencies during the most famous fashion shows and red carpets. However, let me tell you that it is possible to wear 2 or more of those crazy trends in a single item of clothing and still look like a normal person. In this post, I intend to show you with an example how you can wear not 2 or 3, but 5 different fall fashion trends in 1 outfit, and the most important thing is that you will not look like crazy.
To begin, I want to briefly describe the outfit I selected for this post. As you can see in the pictures, I am wearing a red-ish sweater with very interesting sleeves, my basic black skinny pants, and some golden accessories. Nothing crazy, right? It is a totally wearable but at the same time fashionable outfit because I am following 5 important trends for Fall 2019:
Fall trend #1. Puffy sleeves
Although this gorgeous trend is not new, it is gaining more strength than ever. We began to see this tendency on the catwalks last year, but it was until the spring of this year when famous designers such as Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, and Balenciaga took the trend to new levels by adding exaggerated volumes. Ever since, we have seen oversized sleeves all over Instagram, to the point that they have become in a must-have for this season.
A cool thing about puffy sleeves besides the fact they are so pretty and feminine is that you can find this trend in different items: tops, dresses, bodysuits, and sweaters. In addition, they may come in multiple forms: bell sleeves, balloon sleeves, bishop sleeves, leg of mutton sleeves, and many others (let me your comment if you are interested in a post about different types of sleeves), so you can choose the ones that best suit your style.
However, I understand that puffy sleeves can be overwhelming, so if you still feeling unsure about this trend, I recommend you to give it a try in a more toned-down manner with a sweatshirt or a sweater as I did in this outfit, where I chose a pretty chic sweater with leg-of-mutton sleeves. This is way less intimidating, huh?
Fall trend #2. Summer Fig Pantone
Autumn has always been synonymous with warm and earthy colors (e.g. orange, yellow, red, brown, etc.), and 2019 is no exception. In NYFW, designers like Givenchy, Ryan Roche and Area presented the color Summer Fig as one of the stars of this season. This color can be defined as a warm red with a tint of orange, a combination that makes it more wearable than the typical bright red or orange, which at the same time, makes it ideal for the holiday season. You can wear this trend in different garments, but again, if you want to try it in a more subtle way, I suggest you get a nice top or sweater as I did.
You can see other autumn color trends here.
Fall trend #3. Knitted clothes
Knitwear is an important trend for this Fall-Winter, and with temperatures going down, it will be a tendency easy to follow. The difference with other years is that we will see this trend not only in the classic pullovers and cardigans but also in tops, dresses (sweater dresses), skirts, pants, crop-tops, two-piece sets, scarves, etc. You definitely can’t go wrong wearing a single knitted item (as I did), but if you are feeling more daring, you can level up this trend by layering two or more knitted items as suggested by Gabriela Hearst and other famous designers during the last Fashion Weeks (e.g. you can wear your favorite knitted scarf over your sweater dress).

Fall trend #4. Statement Jewelry
In the first 3 trends we were focused on clothing, but what about jewelry? Important fashion designers such as Stella McCartney, Alberta Ferretti, and Valentino have shown us on recent catwalks that oversized jewelry is in tendency for this Fall-Winter 2019, including large earrings, chunky necklaces, thick bracelets, big rings, and other flashy pieces; the purpose here is to transmit a statement about yourself with your accessories, so don’t be afraid to wear your big hoops, long earrings, and oversized chain-link jewels. In the pictures, I am wearing one of my current favorite pair of earrings, which are quite big and bold.

Fall trend #5. Golden fever
We have seen this trend in multiple runways, with famous brands like Moschino suggesting to wear this bright color not only in our accessories (jewelry, shoes, belts, bags, etc.) but also in our clothes. In this case, I am following the trend by wearing golden accessories, including my bold earrings and the buckle of my belt, however, I cannot wait to exploit this trend more during the holiday season with a head-to-toe golden outfit.
I hope you enjoyed this article, now you know that you can combine and adjust multiple fashion trends according to your style and still look fashionable.
